Castor oil is one of the most widely used plant extracts in the world. The castor plant is a large, leafy, tropical-looking plant with red or green “beans.” The castor bean is not a true bean; it is a thick round seed with small bumps on the surface. The largest exporters of castor oil include India, Brazil, and China.
Castor oil packs soaked through the skin improves the body’s ability to assimilate nutrients, eliminate toxins, and stimulate circulation.
Primarily, its health properties stimulate the body, reduce pain, and reduce infection. The benefits of castor oil are related to inflammation, digestion, and circulation.
Materials Needed:
- Wool Flannel Cloth OR 1. Wool Flannel Pack
- Plastic Sheet- Med. Thickness 2. C.O. Pack Holder
- Electric Heating Pad 3. Electric Heating Pad
- Bath Towel
- Two Safety Pins
Instructions for Use:
Fold a piece of wool flannel (cotton flannel is all right if wool is not available or there is an allergy to wool) so it is 2-4 layers thick and measures about 10” x 12”. (This is recommended size for abdominal application- other areas could use different sizes.) Pour castor oil onto the cloth- enough so that the cloth is wet but not drippy. Then apply purposes, apply the pack over the liver area.
Then cover the pack with a piece of plastic (saran wrap or garbage bag will do). On top of that place a heating pad and turn it up to “medium” to begin with- then to “high” if the body tolerates it. Then wrap a towel, folded length-wise, around the entire area and fasten it with safety pins. The heating pad should remain in place for 1-1 ½ hours only. The pack itself can be worn all night.
If you have a Castor Oil Pack Holder, you will not need the plastic or the towel. It also comes with a pocket to hold your heating pad, and saves much “set-up” time. (Castor Oil Pack Holders are usually available at the Cayce Corner.)
The skin can be cleansed after the treatment by using soda water (to a quart of water, add two teaspoons baking soda).
Keep the flannel pack in a plastic container for future use. It is possible to use the same pack for different problems and need not be discarded after one application, but check with your physician about specifics. Typically, you can use your same pack for a number of injuries, but when dealing with a very toxic condition, it would be best to throw the pack away when the condition is healed.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRYCLEAN YOUR PACK- this just adds unwanted chemicals.
Frequency: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 consecutive days per week.
Note: Take olive oil by mouth after every third treatment, if directed, in amount tolerated.
